Full Version: Picking Nits

Just to keep us focused from being too full of ourselves, what are the things that the Eagles need to do better. I know it's nit picking given our 6-1 start, but this is Philly, we strive for perfection and we need Dougy P harping on these issues.

I ask that you ignore the obvious filling in for Hicks and Peters tasks.

WHat should be our improvement to do's?

Here are five from me:

1. RB blitz pickup and pass protection (need to protect the franchise)
2. Jefferey and Smith need to beat coverage and be productive
3. DBs need to catch catchable interceptions. Leave too many on the ground
4. Improve tackling in the LB and secondary. We miss too many tackles
5. When running inbounds, SLIDE Franchise, SLIDE!

Anyone?

I thought this post was about your sensible selection of the Nittany Lions over the Buckeyes this weekend.

But to stay on topic, I’ll say DB play, which I full expect to improve when Darby gets back. Mills is simply a liability as a starting CB.

So you think they'll start the rookie over Mills?

I can see them adjusting the # of snaps based on the opponent. Douglas might get more snaps against bigger WRs, in short yardage, Red Zone.

CW could be more careful about throwing the ball away when surrounded rather than take big hits in the pocket, otherwise I don't have anything to add.

Rasul? I’m not sure. I could see Mills spending far less time on the field.

I would think Darby and Robinson in a base set and then like what you said in the Nickel.

In theory this is reasonable. Just not sure if it’s how he is wired. At least not yet. Maybe as he continues to gain experience and gets older.

I don't like watching a 250 lb hammer-back dancing at the LOS
I'd love to see the top receiving TE in the league block better
I want to see our top FA acquisition win the 50/50's
I want to see more Mack Attack

I'd like to see Jeffrey playing up to his price tag, if not the hype.

I'd like to see Wentz learn to slide.

I'd like to see Blount do better in pass protection.

And I'm concerned that this winning record is hurting our draft position. The only consolation is that it's reducing the value of the second and third round picks that we traded away.

I'd like to see them call a play action or two. They've worked so hard to develop a running game and we ignore one of the biggest benefits.

I'd like to see them stop taking Blount out in short yardage situations--especially on the goal line.

Jeffery should be more productive but been seeing a positive move recently.

What's going on with Smith?

Wentz needs to recognize blitzes better. Ditto for the receivers.

They were swarming to the ball on defense the past two weeks until this past Monday night. Want to see them get back to that. When they play like that, the defense is very good.
