P'burg has a stout run defense so it's not really surprising that Mathews was struggling to get anywhere. The blockers weren't giving him much room to do anything but get hit once he got the ball. Things changed later on when Barner and Smallwood got the ball, but was it because of them or because the defense was on the field for so long?

Matthews has a nicked up leg or ankle. It was good that they could get the young RBs some PT. They played well.

that defense quit...shortly after halftime. I think whatever adjustments they discussed at halftime still couldn't stop the birds' offense.

after they gave up another score they threw their hands up. it was beautiful

So far Pedey passes early to get a lead and then runs it to eat the clock. TOP is playing a big part too, f u chipster, Wentz is stringing together long drives, wearing out opposing Ds while resting ours. All that plays into how our running game works. BTW, Mathews being dinged yesterday showed our coaches that Barner and Smallwood can carry a load and be good!

Probably a bit of both. Frankly, I just never thought Matthews was anything special. Smallwood is 4th on the depth chart, looks like he just got himself a nice bump.

Matthews had an ankle injury that has nagged him since Cleveland and it acted up in the first Quarter....nothing more....he will be fine in 2 weeks but they sat him because he could not run on it.
