Sproles, baby. One year extension, 4.5million.

Here ...

I'm surprised. He hasn't had injury concerns but at 33 and before any real camp activity?

Maybe they've seen enough to know he came into camp in shape and still looks quick and mentally sharp.

Maybe they've been underwhelmed by Smallwood, especially blitz pickup and commitment to studying.

Maybe Matthews' off the field health issue is another factor.

I assumed they would be looking to draft the feature RB of the future next year to take over Sproles roster spot. Could it be that they will stay with their current group of RBs in 2017?

I still would like them to pick up a veteran after preseason cuts, someone bigger than the Duck.

Overall I'm surprised about the extension. I expected Smallwood to replace Sproles' role in the backfield and Agholor to replace Sporoles' role as punt returner in 2017.

CSNPhilly says the Eagles moved some of the $ from the deal into this year; whereas the other article at the link below say some of this year's money was moved to 2017.

When Smallwood and Agholor actually do something, let me know.

I like this signing/extension. He was without a doubt the MVP his first year here, and would've been the MVP of the team last year as an Eagle too if they would've just went to him more often.

Props to Howie again.

I like him a lot. Surprised by the deal though.

If nothing else, I think they could have waited to see how he played early on.

The team is rewarding their players, spending money and I appreciate that.

These guys better play up to their new deals because there's a lot of guys on this 7-9 team being paid like All Pros.

Mathews and Sproles make a good backfield. Barners earned a chance to come off the bench when Matthews goea down.

Next year is when we need to draft a feature back, anyways.

Sproles certainly has a couple of years left, particularly if his role next year is as a return specialist, so this is a good move.

If anything, I'm surprised it's for one rather than two extra years.
