Bad news about Hicks. He's missed a lot of time and will be limited next week!

Good news about Carroll and Sheperd.

As expected about Huff.

Yeah, this concerns me ongoing, especially after he said he was working to be in tune with his body and eliminating his injury problems.

Why worry? We spent plenty of money on his backup and drafted a guy number 2 to help.....oh wait...that was at another position....

This is why you don't spend a record amount on a backup QB.....so you can sign real depth at LB or WR or a host of other positions..

Chase Daniels is the backup Mike.

You're an itch ... maybe poison ivy but more likely dirty bar maids.

I would not be surprised if they pick up a FA RB and LB after final cuts.

Yep. It was most likely part of the plan.

I tend to agree with you. It is reasonable to like the starters at those positions--R Matthews and J Hicks. However, it is desirable to have veteran backups at those positions.

Hicks could use some additional mentoring from a veteran, maybe someone bigger for short yardage situations.

They were probably planning to target a RB in the draft but did not know if they'd end up with a 3rd down back or someone with the skillset to be an every-down back. So by not addressing the position early in free agency they are now in a position to add someone who fits their *current* situation.

They have the rookie RB who is probably just a 3rd down specialist at this point and of course Sproles. By picking up a veteran who has some size they'll have another back who can pick up a blitz and can be effective in short yardage situation.

The former Eagle, Polk, is attractive since he was a good special teamer. One of the older veteran RBs might have more talent as a RB but will he want to play on special teams let alone be effective?

I feel like they should bring back DeMeco with a cheap 1 year, he's a great leader and veteran, already knows the team, and can help with mentoring Hicks and providing run support.

If he can still play at a high back up level, no question YES
