"I don't think he should be the first pick," Guilbeau said. "I can see him being a high first-round pick. It depends on the team he's going to. Do they have enough of the other parts of the team where he can be a facilitator and a complementary player?"

He likes Buddy Hield better than Simmons!

lol...but what does this guy know...he only saw every game....lol...just kidding...

Just more evidence of what I said previously....he can't shoot outside.....not much of a leader......and he does not want to play in Philly. He appears to have a bit of an "I am a star already" attitude.

In contrast, beat writer for Duke thinks there is no downside to Ingram.

I can't say I entirely agree with her. With his pencil-thin frame, I am concerned about injury.

However since he'd likely be a wing/SF with 3pt range he won't have to bang as much down low.

I could see him being assigned to guard the opposition's SG at times, especially the final play of the game when the Sixers have the lead.

I'd go for Ingram.

Stay away from the baggage. He can't shoot.

My biggest concern with this team is the trading of Okafor when Embiid hasn't even played.

You know if we trade Okafor, then Embiid will be a long term injury guy.

I'd prefer not to trade anyone until I see Embiid play really well for most of a season.

No sense shooting ourselves in the foot.

Patience with a trade is the preferred route.

Also, I would pressure Saric to give an answer now if he is coming this year. He holds many skills of Simmons and if here, seems to point us in Ingram's direction.

Sports radio hosts were destroying this guy all day yesterday. BTW, his comments are in contrast to most every other knowledgeable pundit I've heard or read. Some may like Ingram more, but this is the only guy who pushes Simmons out of the top 5. He could be the only one who's right, who knows.

There are plenty of guys who don't think Simmons is worth the top pick.

I did not realize Ingram has such freakish length.

"Ingram is 14 months younger than Simmons, has a longer wingspan by four inches and a standing reach six and a half inches higher. Ingram is a better shooter Ė which is perhaps the most important skill in todayís NBA Ė and has shown a much better trajectory throughout the college season. The intel on Ingram as a teammate and competitor has been much stronger than Simmonsí. Yes, Ingram has a much more frail frame now, but itís easy to envision him filling out as he ages and matures." sports.yahoo.com

Barkley's comments are surprisingly strong. He should know since he played that position and also had unusual ball handling ability for a PF.

"I even look at the kid at LSU, (Ben) Simmons. Heís a good player but heís not going to do great in the NBA next year,"

"ďWe bringing guys to the NBA who donít have any clue how to play basketball or help a team win - and it just sucks."

"Ben Simmons Isnít A Philly Guy"

That's the opinion of former Eagles LB, G Cobb. He goes on to say...

"He comes across as being cool and unemotional. Thereís no doubt that the young man is very talented, but he will have problems here in Philly with that cool attitude."

"Philly likes guys who are passionate, aggressive and donít mind letting you know it.
Simmons is not outwardly passionate. He has the standoffish type of demeanor like Sam Bradford."

The more I read, the more I doubt it will be Simmons @#1

I'd say Simmons is the odds on favorite to be the pick.

My own opinion of who I'd prefer changes almost daily. But from everything I can find online, I think the safe bet is that the Sixers will take Ben over Brandon.

I'm not saying it's the "right" pick, just predicting that it's what will happen.

Joegrane
Is Simmons the "Safe bet" if you are a better or is he the "safe bet" for the Sixers?

It is hard for me to understand the latter.

The former.

I'm not RF, and won't pretend to know how a kid will be in the future.

But I am personally leaning towards Simmons.

The question with Simmons is his shooting and dedication to work on his craft. You do not have to know much about basketball to understand when you watch teams play Simmons in the 2nd half of the season last year that they were content to let him shoot from the perimeter, that was their defensive game plan. Could he develop a quality pull up jump shot? Of course but if his work ethic/dedication are also a question that is a huge question. The guys is freakishly athletic with incredible ability to handle and pass but without a reliable jumpshot he will have issues in the NBA where everyone has incredible athletic ability, perhaps not like his, but much closer than the dreck that was the SEC.

All that being said, if the rumors are true than the Sixers seem set on taking him so we can only hope.....they know a million times more than I do....I just watch a ton of college hoops...they study it....and I trust Colangello...he has a good eye for talent.

I came across this yesterday....

Shooting

The scuttlebutt about his shooting, is less about him being "unable" to shoot, and more about his being "unwilling" to shoot. Is he a great shooter? Not by any stretch. But nor is he terrible.

His form is solid. Assuming he'll work at it, he'll get better.

Reality Fan
Yes...that video made the rounds here as well.....but shooting college 3s with no defenders on the court is no indication of his ability. The 2nd half of the season teams dared him to shoot jumpers and he didn't/couldn't shoot them out of that defense.

I don't discount that he could learn a solid jump shot but he has not yet, even an intermediate one and that is worrisome.
