A relative unknown and probably a dark horse candidate, Paul Guenther has similar qualifications as McD. He's from the area. He's a young, highly thought of coordinator. I heard some comments on the radio today that McD may be having a hard time getting past how he and his brother were let go by the Eagles although his recent radio interview didn't sound that way.

The big question for me with his firing was why did Reid come out the day after the season ended and say he was a good DC and would be coming back and then a few days later he was fired.

The story behind the story could be that he has a falling out with Banner and Lurie.

That was like Kurie last year saying it was a ridiculous question about Howie's future and then a few days later..................

Sadly...as this thing drags out I am coming to the conclusion that they got lucky with Reid but with Roseman and Lurie directing this search we are likely doomed....and it takes a lot for me to say that.....

First...they fired Kelly...I get the reason but the method was petty and vindictive....the BS about getting a jump on their coaching search is ridiculous....unless they hire someone this week...otherwise they are doing nothing to take advantage of that week.....and the word out is that the ability to play nice with Howie is essential when Howie has brought nothing but palace coups and dissension to the FO. Few good coaches will buy into that nor will they be unaware of it.....coaches talk...it is a fraternity....

What this team needs is a leader and they are already looking for a follower...

Good point.

Jeff has been in the dark on things Howie. From listening to some talk, Howie has that back stabbing rep. Although the Cuz said he liked him, which surprised me a little.
HobbEs
Ray Diddy said he likes Howie as well.

The thing about Guenther is he has more experience than McDermott. I believe he was a head coach at the college level so he also brings that to the table. My fear with McDermott is he becomes the next Spagnolo.
The Franchise
I'd be perfectly ok with Guenther. I'm glad the Eagles are interviewing him.
Joegrane
Do they like Howie as GM or just as a Cap specialist?

agreed

the thing that helped Lurie get things right on picking the right coach in Reid was having an actual GM (Modrak) while Howie was just an intern

I was a little too kind....we also have 2 horrible misses in the first round under Howie.....Watkins and Smith...how he can even be allowed in the building after those 2 is amazing.....I mean those are 2 huge 1st round misses......2 guys who can't even see the field...

I'm going to be interested to see how Smith does next year. His extended play against the Giants wasn't bad.

i am not at all optimistic about Smith. i will say however, that its clear his lack of playing time to this point (making him a bust) seems more of an F.U. to Roseman by Chip.

the idea that our LBs were sucking ass all year did not come close to scratching the surface of the schoolgirl fight between Howie and Chip.

he might be a horrible LB....but we were never going to find out with Chip here trying to block ANY notches in Howie's personnel cap

That is a good point....I thought about that when typing Smith's name earlier...
