Full Version: (Buh) Bye Bradford Dilemma

Optimism: hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something.

It's running low on Bradford. He needs to either come out against Dallas smoking or get his Samsonite packed. If he picks it up and starts to fulfill the preseason optimism we can talk about the union of hands and balls or Mathews' groin ... not that there's anything wrong with that.

So, assuming Sam is really Delilah, where do we go from here? The discussion of replacing him with Sanchez is a waste of time as I'm sure there's not too many people who think Mark is their ticket to a Lombardi. I'm guessing they win enough games to take them out of the hunt for a legit franchise QB at the top of the draft, if there are any. That would seem to leave Kelly trying to work another trade, finding gold with some surprising FA or drafting a QB who needs work and giving the keys to Sanchez for a year ... final option, do they resign Bradford hoping they can get something out of him that hasn't been seen yet?

What's the draft got for us? Any sleepers on another team behind someone like Rogers? Please don't tell me RGwii.

I hate that we're not optimistic for the Bye.

My logic when my patience ran out with Reid was that we knew what he could do (make the playoffs) and not do (win the SuperBowl), so it was time to roll the dice to see if we could get someone who could do both whilst being aware that the odds meant that his replacement wouldn't do as well as Reid had done.

Kelly did the same thing in the offseason when he recognised that Foles wasn't good enough and rolled the dice on Bradford. If he isn't the man then we have to sit him before we lose the Rams third round pick. If Sanchez delivers average play then we're looking at 6-10 or 7-9 and an improved draft spot compared to Bradford taking us to 8-8 or even 9-7. I'd rather have the high draft pick if we're looking for a new QB.

Are you sure about the Rams #3? If he plays less than 50% of the games we still give up our #2 but get their #3?

Here are the official details:

Eagles get:
QB Sam Bradford
2015 5th round pick

Rams get:
QB Nick Foles
2015 4th round pick
2016 2nd round pick

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Eagles will also get a conditional 2016 pick from the Rams. It will be a third-round pick if Bradford does not play at all, and a fourth-round pick if he starts less than 50 percent of plays.

I agree that a discussion of Sanchez is a waste of time. Bradford has shown enough improvement recently. The cast around him is not strong and they are still getting used to each other.

I think he just has to avoid regressing.

We should not speak to quickly about Sanchez. What are the chances that any starting QB plays 16 games especially someone with Bradford's history?

Yes they resign Bradford as long as he does not regress.

I previously thought an outside CB was one of their big needs going into the draft but N Carroll has exceeded my expectations.

O line is a high priority. I thought they would pick Oregon T Fisher in the 1st last year, start him at G and plan to eventually have him grow into one of the OT spots after Peters retires. I could see them doing that in the 1st.

V Curry is a big ? It will be hard to keep him. Why would he stay here as a pass rush specialist when he can get a starting job elsewhere. M Smith better be ready to contribute. I could see them drafting another OLB but probably a pass rush specialist, not in the 1st or 2nd.

Cooper could be history if he does not step up his game.

I could see them drafting a QB in the mid rounds as a future #2 QB.

Last year I could name many positions where they could use help on D. After this year, assuming Curry flies the nest, his will be the biggest hole to fill.

Celek has been hanging in there but do they look for a blocking TE in the middle rounds.

I mean I don't wanna start talking draft or anything too soon, but I'm really big on Boykin out of TCU.

this season is pretty much shot, so I'll enjoy what I can, but I'm not expecting much. As for next year, there's no way in hell I re-sign Bradford unless his play really improves. If he continues to put up the same type of numbers, which are very clsoe to his career averages, then he doesn't represent a significant upgrade over Sanchez. I think we let Bradford walk, draft a young qb, and maybe bring in another retread.

I've definitely lost confidence in the possibility of him being a long-term, upper tier QB option. I'd rather cut our ties and move on in the hopes of finding that guy.

If Bradford is willing to sign a 1-2 year deal at backup money, I'd consider that. Otherwise, he can go be mediocre (or worse) somewhere else.

I am still in a wait and see mode with Bradford. Based on his performance so far I would pay him as a lower tier starter for 1 or 2 years. That may be in Sam's best interest as well. It would give him a chance to improve and eventually go for that big payday.

Apologies - I thought it was their third if he started less than 50%.

A fourth is less tempting, so may earn Bradford a little more leeway in terms of his improvement with the system and WRs. The coaches know the play and where the call should be, so are better placed than we are to decide on the incompletions.
