Full Version: Inside zone breakdown

Must read on where our running game failed on Monday night.

The guards weren't good, but this highlights some wrinkles the defense used to stop our bread and butter, and how we didn't properly adjust. I suspect Chip will have a solution in place next time.

Love reading this kind of stuff though.
Good stuff.

In a traditional 7 on 7, running game, the FB is the blocker that puts the advantage into the offenses hands on short run. In the read option, it's the QB ball fake that gives us that advantage. That DE on our left side, can just do whatever he wants. We lose the option of keeping that, or at least making the DE think we will. Notice how open the Bradford keeper is. We need to wither have Bradford keep a few to open up the running game for this style offense, or get a new style of running offense.

It would seem to me that running the read option without using the option is not the best idea.
It's not a read option. It's an inside zone. It's been our most effective running play for two years, even with Foles at the helm.
