For these kids, there is a lot at stake.

Imagine applying for a few jobs, and the differences are as follows:

Make the 53 man roster = $435,000 salary
Make the Practice Squad = $107,000 salary, with chance to make 3 wks min NFL salary more if called up for one week
Make Neither and get average starting salary for New College Grads = $45,000

And really, most of the players are probably not average students in high paying majors so they will probably be below the $45K average.

This is a huge, life changing event for these kids.

That average $45k only takes into account those who are able to get a job. Most of these guys may have a degree, but how many basket weaver openings are there that pay $45k? laugh.gif
