Really? Another ACL special?

Maybe they have a trade worked out for Kendricks, for a position we should have drafted in this spot.

If you want a guy who is a reach, trade the fuck down for two reasons:

So it doesn't look so bad by reaching for him and

So you get us another draft pick for the reach you avoided.

They have him as a 43OLB? Is he a special teams ace or something?

We had him as a 2nd round grade. Looks good to me. Not sure why everyone is having a hissy fit. Guy looks like a ballhawk and is a hell of an athlete. Fwiw it was Achilles not ACL.

I'm beginning to think that Kiko is gonna be on the outside quite a bit.

Here's what I had on Hicks:

Overall ranking 113

NFL.com 114
ESPN 140
Draftek 107
CBS Draftscout 121
Walter (not in top 97 listed)

NFL.com rating 5.40
5.20-5.49 NFL backup or special teams potential

ESPN rating 59
50-59 Adequate Prospect
These are usually players that play at a high level in college, but lack some measurables or skills to play at that same level in the NFL. He may be a player that has a lot of developmental qualities, or could be a player that will contribute right away on special teams or in a situational capacity. He will usually rate in the second-third at his position and is considered a fifth round draft choice.

The four mocks I follow, none of them had him top three rounds.

Walter football two guys had him drafted 120 and 130.
ESPN McShay-Kiper head to head did not have him top three rounds and neither did Draftek.

Doesn't look like a good value at 84. It didn't look like anyone had him rated that high.

If nothing else, trade down. When you're reaching for guys like this, better to trade down and get another dart for the balloon.

C'mon Chip

Why would we "reach" for an ILB. I don't think that's what this was. Ian Rappaport says the Bengals were going to take him one pick later. Their coach has forgotten more about MLB play than most anyone else knows.

Most guys are not that well kept secret.

The Packers were just waiting at the end of the first round to pounce on Jon Harris that year as were the one team at the end of the first round last year for Marcus Smith.

In the end, the major thing is can he play? We'll see. I hope so.

Sometimes you can get both. A chance to see if your guy can play and an extra pick for being patient.

I'm surprised by the pick because Chip generally is obsessed with good measurables, and this guys prob is that he doesn't have good measureables.

Look, most draft picks aren't going to work out. I love all of last years draft picks at the time but how many of them are going to be an important part of the team going forward? Probably just Huff and Matthews. You get 2 starters out of a draft and you are doing damn well.

Obviously Kendricks is not coming back after this year.

Maybe Ryans' recovery is slower than expected.

A comparison of spider charts is interesting.

What do you mean by his measurables not being good? He's on the smaller side, but is a pretty freaky athlete. Ironically, a close physical comp at ILB is Kendricks and OLB is Ryans.

I confess I didn't look at his measurables, just repeating what I heard.
