Wow!!

Lurie changed his mind.

Upon reflection and IMO after listening to others in the organization, Lurie decided Howie was in the wrong. You don't do this if others in the organization were supporting Howie. The scouting department must have withheld their support.

Jeff Lurie expanded on it.

If Howie went ballistic at being called a cap guy, he just got his GM title taken away and seems to no longer be involved in talent evaluation.

Chip was praised by Lurie in a big way.

Adam Caplan just said that Howie is very talented but that he is too consumed with things that aren't his job. He said he has been told of this many times by people. He gets too carried away with nonsense. He says that Howie needs to do HIS job.

Interesting.

I wonder who Chip is going to hire...............................................

Tom Gamble??

"I have a very good relationship with Chip that continues to grow stronger and stronger. When we spoke, he was thoughtful, thorough and professional. There were no demands, no threats - quite the contrary - he was passionate, engaged and articulated a dynamic and clear vision on how this fully integrated approach will work. We look forward to seeing it come to life over time."

In other words "Chip discussed Howie with me, in a rant littered with profanity and anti-Semitic slurs, that he is either going to have final say on all personnel decisions, or he is going the fuck back to college where he doesn't have to deal with billionaire cocksuckers who know nothing about football and their $#*@& geek subordinates."

I don't know any other way to take this, the media was blowing up with rumors that Chip was done here, and Lurie had to do something and fast.

He could make this all very easy for us as fans to decide, and simply tell us which one of these assholes was responsible for Marcus Smith and DeSean Jackson. biggrin.gif

lol...the geek got the smackdown.

Chip said football guys evaluate talent...contract guys do the numbers. so pipe down cap boy!

it works out great for Howie cuz he gets to feel like he got promoted. shiny new title and everything

but wait....

do we have another coach/GM?....and its CHIP KELLY!?!...that always works out

*bangs head on desk*

If it WAS Chip who orchestrated the nothing for Desean campaign and it WAS Chip who orchestrated Smith as a first rounder, then why would Chip be seen as qualified for this? If Howie was against all those in hindsight, stupid moves, then why take away his talent evaluation responsibilities?

I think this is a pretty strong sign that Howie has some big draft and free agency fuckups in his past and is more responsible for the screw ups.

If Chip was the bubbling draft and free agency idiot some have hinted at, then no way he gets more talent evaluation responsibilities.

i think this was less about saying how great Chip is as the sole evaluator and more about telling Howie to stay out of the war room until we need the numbers crunched

The sentiment no doubt existed long before today as everyone smirked whenever geek boy voiced his opinion during talent eval discussions. Howie as the 2nd in command likely took offense and fired Gamble....Lurie had to put out the dumpster fire before it started raging

Chip relies heavily on other voices when looking for/at players and that will no doubt continue when he hires his next Tom Gamble

Wouldn't the more appropriate question be "why would fans expect Lurie to have any clue what he's doing?" He's no more qualified to run a business than Kim Kardashian! He's never worked a day in his life (and has never had to pay to see a movie). Forrest Gump could've handled borrowing $200 million (with his uncle's permission) to buy an NFL franchise, then riding the wave of exponential financial growth for the league, in one of the NFL's largest markets.

Regardless of who is right and who is wrong, what happened the last few days is an absolute disgrace, and it looks like a bunch of incompetent children are running the Eagles. Anyone who has ever participated in the business world would agree, surely that includes you.

I'm not so sure he gets more evaluation responsibilities, or at least accepts more. Kelly is said to be a coach who steps back and lets his coaches coach and lets his coordinators do their jobs. He sets the course and they do the work unimpeded by him. That's what we're told. If it's true, then HE hires the guy who will be let loose to manage the personnel evaluation and acquisition and let's him do his job. This could be a good move and even though I don't like losing Gamble Chip seems pretty meticulous and deliberate in his hiring.

I think we need to hear what really happened before labeling it a disgrace.

It may well be one, but I'll with hold judgement until we know more.

The disgrace was firing Gamble. Other than that, Lurie seems much like Kelly in that he gets people to do a job and lets them do it. That's the Reagan blueprint for management. Lurie doesn't need to do anything except put the right people in position to make decisions and then let them do it. It missed on Rhodes, hit on Reid. Initial success with Banner then made the right decision to dump him. Maybe its the same thing with Howie, started off OK but I don't doubt that Kelly successfully and somewhat diplomatically laid out the plusses and minuses of Howie for his boss. I doubt it was vindictive and I don't think it was a power struggle for Kelly. I think it was "just the facts, mam."

Did you read what Dreagon said about the Eagles front office? Far from your perspective.

Our entire fan base is buzzing with speculation on why our HC publicly jabbed at our GM, followed by our long time player personnel guy being fired and escorted from the building, followed by rumors of Howie and Chip being unable to work together and rumors of Chip wanting out, followed by our GM being 'promoted' from his duties and his personnel duties falling on Kelly (after he and the owner had a pleasant conversation that surely involved no threats at all). Shit like this has destroyed companies - like I said, regardless of the details (that we'll never truly know about anyway), this is an absolute disgrace and shows that the shit really hit the fan in the Novacare Complex. That falls on The Billionaire.

Sure. Rooting for a team run by Jerry Jones has to be grating. Then again, Jones and the Mara family have combined for 7 Super Bowls in the last 28 years.....at least we're a 24 karat Gold Standard front office compared to Dan Snyder's. rolleyes.gif
