IDK, but I will say he is not a DE for us, drafted as OLB, first time we have taken one since Robinson in 79. I can see why Chip had him rated so high, he has all the tools he looks for at that position. He won't be a plug and play player, but they invested a lot of time scouting this kid, so they should know better than us (and generic draft graders) about how well his skills match their needs.

They don't need a plug and play. I suspect that if they could have gotten Barr he would have started the year behind Cole and maybe backed him up most of the year. Barr has more potential but Smith has more defensive experience. Cole was growing into his role last year and could maintain that level, improve or regress this year. Now at least, they have some potential behind him.
