When you first join you're a "Rookie". Don't worry, after 10 posts you become a "Veteran".
However any member with over 100 posts can change their status from Veteran to whatever they want.
Just click on "My Controls" at the top of a page, then from the options at the bottom left choose "Edit Profile Info" and you can enter your chosen title in the first field.

Good stuff -- I couldn't change my member status at the other board I post on actively until my 1000th post.

What's the title of the first field? I can't figure it out.
