Full Version: The NFL Squeeze on the American Worker

To my dismay, when shopping for an NFL logo'd jersey, I could not find ONE made in USA. The NFL, Nike, NFL Players and others have shopped all the jobs of that industry out of the country, the home of this national sport. What a disgrace !

In a time of economic slow down with jobs hard to come by, I am being told there is not ONE USA based company found who could produce the merchandise CONSUMED by and PAID FOR by people just like me and you, my fellow American NFL Football Fans ? (sorry Eyrie). This is a national disgrace, and quite a statement about just how bad some concepts of capitalism actually work against the common good. Profit before we the people.

An NFL jersey retails for $100. No doubt the NFL PLAYERS earns some kind of revenue slice from that. So too does NIKE, and perhaps too for NFL itself, I don't know. My point is ... DOES ANY OF THIS MAKE SENSE TO YOU ?

Question is .... what to do about it ? It's no good just being dismayed and overly puzzled about it. Something must ... and could be .... done. I just don't yet know what that is ... thinking cap is on ....

I refuse to pay full price to the money grubbing NFL for their jerseys. I only own one, and it was proudly bought from one of those chinese sites that sell exact replica jerseys for like $25. If you compare it with a real one, they're virtually indistinguishable.

Granted, some of the chinese made ones can be pretty shamelessly fake, but if you can find the right vendor, then by all means cut out Goodell and save yourself some money.

My interest is not about saving money. It's about a system that cuts out the American worker from participating in what is after all, something good.

Ugh. I hate to enter into another no-doubt-pointless political argument, but I can't help it.

We aren't a capitalist country anymore, and haven't really been 100% capitalist in about 100 years, as we've been on the slippery slope to socialism since then. Believe it or not, business execs don't sit in their high rises, twirling their moustaches and dreaming of new ways to fuck over their countrymen by outsourcing jobs 5,000 miles away to different nations. Also, wealthy people don't send their money to the Caymans, Bahamas, Switzerland, Qatar, Singapore, etc. because they wish their savings to see the world, and to visit different cultures.

These things happen for one reason: it makes financial sense. We live in a time where Russia and China are more capitalistic and business-friendly than America, with their tax and regulatory structure, among other things. Imagine if millions of jobs and trillions of dollars of privately-owned wealth were to come back to this country tomorrow. It can happen - just stop voting for socialism.

*edit - I watch games, and have NFL Sunday Ticket, because I love football and am an Eagles fan. Other than that, I don't give any money to those assholes who run the league either.

I happen to disagree with you on both statements, so our opinions differ. I'm not making any attempt to alter your opinion, I'm expressing mine. I trust we can agree to disagree.

Meanwhile, I'm getting set to visit Tampa this weekend with 3 other of my Eagles buddies, all of us living in Florida, originating from Bucks County.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EAGLES !!!!
