One down, eight to go for the Eagles as the team announced Tuesday that they have agreed to terms on a four-year deal with second-round pick Mychal Kendricks, a linebacker out of California. Kendricks, 5-11, 239, was the 46th overall pick and the first of the Eagles' two second-rounders. One of nine draft picks by the Eagles this year, Kendricks is expected to compete right away for a starting job at the SAM linebacker position.

The Pat Tillman Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year as a senior in 2011, Kendricks played in all 51 games (29 starts) during his four-year career at California, amassing 258 tackles, 36.5 tackles for a loss, 13.5 sacks, seven fumble recoveries, four interceptions, one touchdown return, and a blocked punt. Kendricks was recognized as an All-America selection by several outlets as a senior in 2011 after leading the team with 106 total tackles while collecting three sacks and two interceptions. He earned second team All-Pac-10 honors as a junior in 2010, ranking among the conference and national leaders with 8.5 sacks. As a sophomore in 2009, Kendricks finished second on team with 71 tackles, adding one sack and one interception that he returned 68 yards for a touchdown against UCLA.

The last time the Eagles selected a player from Cal in the second round of the draft, they hit the jackpot with wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who was rewarded with a second contract earlier this offseason. If everything works out as the Eagles' envision it, perhaps Kendricks will find himself in a similar position four years from now.

Excellent news - gives him the maximum possible time to learn his role in our system.

I hope he isn't just given the job. Jordan was a solid SAM and shouldn't be benched unless Kendricks earns the job.

One reason the Stoolers D is always so good is they practically never start rookies.

My biggest fear about this season is a slow start that takes us out of playoff contention. I want to be at least 3-2 after the first 5 games.

That is a reasonable fear for this season, but I am not sure that I agree that last year Jordan was solid at SAM. I think he is a good backup but not a sound starter, but reasonable minds can disagree on this and I was a big fan a few years ago.

Regardless, signing the rookies quickly is critical. We lost Bunkley's effectiveness for his rookie year through a prolonged negotiation and now that the new CBA is in place and the Eagles have cleared up a lot of cap noise there is no excuse for not getting this draft class into the fold post haste. Our first four picks could all do with extended time at NovaCare this offseason (same with last year's draft class. Casey Matthews should be living about a block away), get it done Howie.

The Philadelphia Eagles today announced they have agreed to terms with 2012 draft selections defensive end Vinny Curry, tackle Dennis Kelly and wide receiver Marvin McNutt on four-year deals.
The Eagles have now agreed to terms with four of their nine total picks from the 2012 draft.

The new CBA makes all this stuff a no brainer.......there is no haggling like Bunkley had.....the slots are what they are and the Jamarcus effect takes away the ridiculous money.....It will be done quickly so Howie and his staff can get a few days off.

You crack me up.

Jordan is a card carrying coward. He's decent early in a season, but once he gets hit once or twice he disappears. It's happened year after year for how long now? If you can't play with bumps n bruises . . . you can't play in the NFL.

Only Cox and Foles have yet to be signed, big day for the Birds. I loved Boykins comment when asked if he thought he would be the return guy - "Does it belong to me? I definitely want it to."

The rookies were all at Novacare today as part of the new "Welcome to the Rookies" day which will continue through the weekend with a rookies-only (well.....plus guys who were on the practice squad last year I guess) under the new CBA. I must admit, I am not sure whether the unsigned players will get onto the field or not, does anyone know that?

Dave Spadaro is probably touching himself every hour on the hour.

Apparently players need to be signed for TC but can participate in all workouts prior to TC without being signed.

OK, so the work on the field is probably low contact, that makes sense. Thanks.
