Full Version: I just heard the most stupid prediction ever...

from one Mike Lombardi on NFL Net.

He went on record predicting that the Eagles will draft Tim Tebow in round 1.

According to genius, they've given up on Kolb. Will bring DMac back to finish his contract and go with Tebow in 2011.

If this scenario plays out that way, I think I'll have to give up on the NFL. I could never root for another team, and it'd be damn near impossible to support that garbage.

wow, I could not agree more, not because I love Kolb or even disagree with him being traded if value can be gotten but Tebow? That would be a shock and makes no sense.

I'll play devil's advocate here, this might be Lombardi's thinking:

Reid loved the options that McNabb's mobility gave him early in his career, and signing Vick off the scrap heap was an attempt to bring that back into the offense. Tebow would be a rookie they could slot right in to Vick's wildcat position, and get some instant production out of him while Reid and the staff started working on his mechanics, a multi-season project. By the time Tebow would be straightened out and ready to start at QB, they'll know for certain whether Kolb can handle the fulltime QB spot or not. Remember, they did have the patience to sit Kolb all this time after drafting him high...

First round would be insane. However, if the third round came around and he's still there, would they consider a trade up in the 3rd to nab him?

Not gonna happen, though. The Jax owner has made it known he's a big supporter of drafting Tebow, so I doubt he slides past their spot in the 2nd.

just last week Lombardi is the same guy who said the eagles are keeping Vick and Dmac and thinks there's a 50% chance Kolb returns as well....the term that comes to mind is 'smokin crack'

i honestly dont see AR admitting a mistake as glaringly as never giving Kolb a couple years as a starter . everyone has been saying since Kolb got here that nobody knows how good he will be....but coaches would see hundreds of Kolb snaps and throws so they would have a better idea. IMO even if AR (being a QB coach) saw something in Kolb's game that made him say, "uh oh we are in trouble" he would still give it a shot for at least a couple years

good coaches almost always have huge egos and are very stubborn so if Kolb's is a round peg that doesnt fit AR's square hole of an offense he will just get a bigger mallet...for a while anyway

everything i have heard from everyone who reports on the team is still saying that Kolb is AR's golden boy and the word of Lombardi means little...i would need to see way more

With Kolb, Andy can have the WCO QB he always wanted and McNabb could never give him. When Kolb came in, he had a bad throwing motion and held the ball too long. Coaching appears to have made gains in both of those areas.

Tebow will need a lot of time to unlearn his bad mechanics. I don't think his mobility will translate in the much faster NFL, Better arm mechanics and better training could produce better arm strength. It did for Drew Brees,

But his ability to read defenses appears limited. Coaching can help some in this area. But you also need a high baseline of God-given talents to absorb all of the complexities. That is where I think most of the questions are.

QB is one of the few positions that does not need help in the offseason (beyond an upgrade at #3 which Stevie Wonder could give us).
