One problem teams have in preseason is getting a good read on backups - if you only see them play against second and third teamers, how do you know if they're worth keeping? Especially for a team with S-B aspirations. The good thing about all these nicks is by the time the second cutdown day comes, the Eagles won't be losing anyone they should keep - they'll have plenty of film on these guys.

With all the injuries, Eagles will get a good look the next two games at some players who could be key guys if someone goes down during the season:

RB: Mahe, Levens, Tapeh and McCoo. With Bucky healthy, the backups might not play until well into the second half Thursday and the middle of the second quarter the last game. Now they'll get a lot more action. Parry will get a lot of work at FB.

OL: Hicks has gotten a lot of work at LG, with mixed results, still, it makes him more valuable as a backup. With Clarke and Jackson out, Furio, Ephraim and Foli will get a long look - this actually could be a blessing, neither Clarke or Jackson looked ready this year, now we can stash them and get them in better shape for next season.

DL: Bradley, Weatherington, McNeil will get a lot of snaps. Green and Johnson will get a lot more work than they would have otherwise, which will give them a good read on whether to keep one or both.

LB: Ena gets to start at SLB, this will let them know if he can be a "big" option at SLB or if he's only a ST player to be replaced in the draft next year. Short will get a chance to audition for other teams, while Labinjo will get a lot of work and a chance to solidfy a sport on the practice squad, or if Ena falters, even on the team.

DB: Wynn will get a lot of work at CB, which will be great preparation for the season and his role as the dime back. Hart and Reed will get a lot of work at S, which is a plus given Dawkin's injury history last year and this August.

Ummm. I'm having trouble getting excited about all this good news?

I must be a real wet blanket.

GO EAGLES. GET HEALTHY. PLAY GOOD. WIN. THE ONE.

That is all.
