9M salary, 2M SB was a 11M cap for this year.

Subtract the 6Mof unamortized signing bonus

= cap savings of 5M this year.

I guess they don't want him back, as a restructure with one year extension could have saved more cap than this.

A little surprised in that I thought he graded out well, not 11M well, but keep around well.

We'll see.

Update:

Per WIP, they are trying to work out a new deal. This is my preference.

Stay tuned.

There is no way he's worth $11m so something has to change.

$5mil saved with $6mil in dead $.

How much will they spend on his roster replacement?

His contract is through age 31. There isn't incentive for the Eagles to risk going past that age for a speed/quickness guy.

How much incentive is there for Curry to agree to a new deal?

How much would you give back if you were him?

I suppose you have to look at what someone else would pay given his age and recent performance.

Cutting him after next year costs $4mil in dead $, $2mil after 2019.

Vinny's replacement will either be a rookie or a guy that comes in for the vet minimum so it will only cost the Birds about $500,000 to replace him with a vet but the rookie would depend on how high that he's drafted. I think that they have to release him and then hope that they can sign him back if he won't restructure.

Totally agreed. I love the guy, like Burton, but we should definitely not be overpaying to keep members of the team together unless they're absolutely crucial.

I'm not aware they can release him before June 1 without incurring the $6 mil in dead cap $. OTC says they get $9 mil in cap space with only $2mil in dead $ after June 1
https://overthecap.com/player/vinny-curry/786/

He would have to agree to a restructured deal. It seems that players usually get an extra year on the contract when they do that. Do you want to do that for a "speed guy" who would be 32 yrs old?

I still think the more likely outcome is that C Long is cut, Barnett gets starter minutes in a rotation and S Means gets some reps in obvious passing situations.

I don't know the implications of a trade but OTC indicates a similar problem with dead$. I assume there is a long list of possibilities there.

I wonder if they are trying to get Curry to help them so they don't have to cut Celek before they have to be under the cap later this month. Celek would be a good guy to have around in camp even if he does not make the team.

Tough decisions have to made if you want to stay on top and I jsut don't think that Celek brings much to the table anymore. He was the third team TE last season.

Graham has to be a priority for us with that motor of his but Vinny is a real effort guy too. I don't see Chris Long replacing Vinny but they may be forced to go that route. I'm a Vinny guy but you can't pay him $9 million this season and I think that they knew that when they drew up the contract.

I'd rather have Long for 2018 and then a rookie in 2019 than Curry for $11m in 2018.

A restructure that keeps Curry for another couple of years could give us some cap relief in 2018 and still see him judged on production when he's 31.

One thing to keep in mind folks.

Even with an additional year and a restructure, besides giving us over 5.5 more cap this year, his high salary in the last two years of his deal means that he needs to produce then because if he doesn't, we save more money on the cap because his salary will be more than his unamortized signing bonus.

Also, one thing that rarely gets talked about. Howie absolutely botched this contract with Curry. We negotiated against ourselves, and paid the man like he was a two tome Pro Bowl player, rather than put a lower base with sweeteners if he played like he was getting paid to play. Remember the pics of Howie jumping into Vinnies arms after they did the deal? Besides being out of place, it was an unnecessarily expensive deal.

But since Howie has kicked ass since then, all is forgiven. And then there is that Super Bowl thing. I love me some Howie!

Goddamit.

Actually no I had completely forgot about that, until you felt the need to remind us all. Oh well, a ring ends all problems.

Been gone for a week, getting caught up on threads, sorry for the reply to an old post.

Is it possible to add an emoji for this? A "We won the SB, who cares!" emoji?

Why don't you lead the charge, and create a Kelce 'we don't care' emoji with his genie outfit?

I would, but me typing this sentence and putting it into the internet is perhaps the pinnacle of my computer smarts. I wouldn't even know what to google first to do something like this.

But I'll gladly buy a beer for the chap that does it! cheers.gif
