Orthopedic Surgeon: Carson Wentz’s Injury Is ‘Worrisome’
http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2018/02/2...n-wentz-injury/

"This is an RG3 equivalent folks...I think his timeline is very, very optimistic...I’d be thinking nine, 10, or even 11 months...This kid, God bless him, is probably going to be brace dependent – like Brady, like RG3 was – the rest of his career."

Mentioning RG3 and CW in the same sentence is ugly. Of course they are very different QBs, especially physical size and attributes from the neck up.

Carson mentioned fairly recently that he hoped to be back in Week 1.

Nine months would be mid September.

I really wanted that 2018 2nd round pick and $5 mil in cap space from a N Foles trade. I was okay rolling the dice with Sudfeld for a game or two, but do you want to do that if CW won't be back until mid October?

I'm now more inclined to wait until after June 1 when the Eagles get $1.5 mil more cap relief from a N Foles trade. I'd also be more interested in a player in addition to a 2019 pick, maybe a backup LB.

They may need to sign a veteran backup QB costing even more cap $.

Could it be that we'll never see the 2017 Carson Wentz again?

Wentz is a much bigger worry than people think IMO. I don't think that we'll ever see the escape artist that he was this season ever again I'm afraid. Unless the Eagles are blown away with an offer I don't see Nick going someplace anytime soon. Even if they think that Sudfeld is ready they still have to have a backup.

I have no idea if he'll be OK ... ever, but I do believe if it's possible to come back and still be a dynamic player, he's the one to do it. Only time will tell us.

He might be brace "dependent" lol. It sounds like some disorder. I guess that bum knee doesn't cut it anymore.

I had seen this yesterday but wasn't able to confirm it anywhere. Nothing on ESPN.com or anything. So I was thinking it was, shall we say, fake news. Apparently, it (sort of) is.

I'm relieved.

The truth is that nobody knows, not even the operating doctor. You only have to look to Andy Luck to see that. On the other end you have Adrian Peterson. Everybody heals differently and "torn" ligaments covers a lot of ground. We just have to wait this one out fellas.

I thought we heard 9-11 months from the get go, and that was before the other damage was mentioned.

That puts it first week of Sept to first week in November.

Even if you take a month off of that, first week in August to first week in October. Even if he gets on the field first week in August, you won't feel comfortable in what he can do for a few weeks.

Moral of the story: Foles ain't going anywhere, until at least mid August.

When you look at the list of 2018 opponents there aren't many automatic Ws. This is not going to be last year's schedule.

He'll be fine whenever he returns.

And if he isn't, we'll still get to remind Cowboys fans that kids are graduating college this year who weren't alive the last time they won a ring. And they don't have the technology to watch their rings anyway, as VHS tapes from that year are decaying now.

Well, in an unexpected result, we have the easiest strength of schedule among the four NFC East teams next year. That's a good start!

Exactly. The doctor who performed the surgery had said it went very well and he may recover much quicker than normal.

Wentz also seems to be one of those guys who works and works HARD to get what he wants/needs.

So I am hopeful.

Then again, he hasn't been coming off a SB win where the bulk of the core group of players responsible are already wrapped up.

There aren't a lot of holes to plug at this point.

Yup, very difficult to say what will be an easy or hard game at this point. Remember, the Eagles were supposed to be an easy opponent this past season. There were a few other surprises as well.

At this point, we really have absolutely no idea how hard/easy the schedule will be.

How did they come to that conclusion? All 4 teams play the same schedule with the exception of two games. Those two games for the Eagles are Min and LAR.

Then only good team that they play that the Eagles do not is...the Eagles. That is the only thing I can see.

Math. Every team we play has to play the 16-3 defending champs. We play all those other chumps. So our schedule is "easy" and theirs is "hard." It's a really dumb "stat" to track.

Strength of schedule is okay in broad terms, but who a team beats week-in and week-out almost always ends up being meaningless. Joe had us losing every game last year, because the previous game we didn't beat anybody good. rolleyes.gif

I don't get why everyone is so confident. QBs coming back from ACL are often dreadful. I'd give him a 50/50 chance of returning to his former level.

That is exactly right; they have to play us!

However, it sure was fun texting my Cowboy fan acquaintances and let them know they had a more difficult strength of schedule next year. They were all like no way, get a clue.

I'm not overly-confident, I don't think. I don't have us penciled in the last game right now or anything, but if pressed to bet, the safe money is on us, I think.

I also think Carson has the intelligence, commitment and work ethic to do all in his power to get back on the field and be as good as he can be. And the rest of the staff to help him get there. So, I'm confident, but I think it's earned given recent history.

Is it bad that I have 2 friends (one Cowboys and one Patriots) and they are both realistic, reasonable nice people...and I wish they weren't? I want to talk shit so bad, but it's not fun, cause they agree with me. Oh well. Heavy is the head that wears the crown... cool.gif

While he isn't a 'running QB,' a big part of his game is mobility, moving around outside the pocket. I'm not sure how this injury will affect that, but that would be my only concern.

That's also my fear Pb. It's Wentz's mobility (escapability) as much as anything else that separates him from other QBs. I don't think that he'll get that back right away and maybe never. 3 ligaments is major damage.
