Okay, you've had your fun with this, now be serious for a moment. Why do THEY think this is a good idea?
Do they think someone will give them a 2nd round pick for Eli? It would have to be a team that is playoff-caliber except at QB. That used to be Denver, but they've been exposed. Jacksonville? http://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/21606935 The only other reason to bench Eli is to get the team to think along these lines--that management is thinking about blowing up the team and rebuilding. Could it be a way to motivate them to play harder and give their fans something to hope for next year? Do you really think a rookie coach has the authority to bench a veteran QB without talking to the GM, probably even the owner?
Could it be that they are thinking about going into rebuild mode by trading Manning in the off-season to a contender but need to know more about the other QBs they have? |

It might have been suggested by Reese or Macadoo (or not) but Mara would have been the one to sign off on it. That probably means several things. First, Macadoo is probably toast, and Reese may be as well. (unless it was Reese's idea and he suggested it to Mara in a bid to save his own skin). They are in official tanking mode now, and have likely already asked Eli for a list of teams he would be willing to be traded to. They are starting Geno for appearance's sake since he is their #2, but they know he isn't their future and I predict they will swiftly switch to Webb to see if they have anything there or not. |

I agree - these are orders from the top. Which should outrage the fan base even more. --------------------

I saw a video clip on espn of Macadoo suggesting that Webb will also get an opportunity this season.

Remember Tom Coughlin is in Jacksonville. Eli has done well in the past with a good D and running game. Maybe Tom made a friendly phone call to his old buddies in NY. The offer must be substantial enough that they'd bench Eli to evaluate their other QBs. They probably trust Tom that he is being straight with them about the seriousness of their offer.
At age 36 and with an extraordinary health history he could have a few more solid years in him behind a decent O Line. That would probably be perfect for Jax. I bet Eli would jump at the opportunity. It is a big decision for NY. They probably could patch up the O Line and be competitive next year. However with three above average teams in the NFC East, maybe this would be the time to accept a pick for Eli and rebuild. Okay, you've had your fun with this, now be serious for a moment. However with three above average teams in the NFC East, maybe this would be the time to accept a pick for Eli and rebuild. Here you go again... What THREE teams are above average in the NFC East? Right now, the only team above average is the Eagles. The NFC is in the shitter right now. It can change quickly for sure but, history tells us the Redskins will continue to look good on paper but not on the field. It looks like Dallas has quite a few problems, which may (or may not) get worked out. You claim the Eagles aren't as good as their record indicates but you then post here indicating Dallas and the Redskins are above average. SMH... |

I saw a video clip on espn of Macadoo suggesting that Webb will also get an opportunity this season. That would make sense. Geno Smith was simply brought in for veteran backup. Now that their season is way past over, playing him doesn't do them a whole lot of good. They already know what they've got there. But since at least some semblence of appearances must be kept, and going straight to Webb would be a tacit admission they aren't even trying anymore, they have to give Smith some time first. |

Geno Smit is now considered a veteran? If you really suck, can you be called a veteran? ![]() |

Andy Reid got out-coached in a lot of games, man, a lot of big games."
