This from RF's favorite writer:
QUOTE
Carson Wentz. He's now beyond having one of the best seasons ever by an Eagles quarterback or a young quarterback. He's having an all-time season. He's at the point where when the Eagles go three-and-out or have an ugly series, you're just surprised. Wentz threw four more touchdowns Sunday without a turnover. He's now got 23 touchdowns and five interceptions through nine games, and that puts him on pace for 40 TDs and nine interceptions. The only QBs in NFL history to do that in a season are Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. That's the level Wentz is playing at. That's where he's at in his career. That's who Wentz is. He's 24. He's started 25 games in his life. He was backing up Chase Daniel 15 months ago. And he's literally having one of the greatest seasons in NFL history. Howie Roseman could have drafted 100 Danny Watkins and it wouldn't matter. Finding a way to get this kid into an Eagles uniform makes up for everything.
Ray Didininger says if we were talking about Brady or Rogers we'd just take it for granted that these guys are two of the best to ever play the position, but this is a player who's only in the middle of his second year.

Wow! Just WOW! Getting FAs to come here is going to be very easy.

One negative, I am betting Schwartz gets a HC job this offseason, unless maybe Howie makes him the highest paid DC in the league.

Even if schwartz moves on other quality coaches will want to come here.

I'm more concerned about the loss of Reich. I bet Pedey is not the mastermind of the 0. I see pedey as more of a glue guy HC. That's not intended to be an insult.

He did not come in with a lot of experience as a coach. He was brought here to recreate that "family" environment that Lurie wants. He's certainly done that and more.

Cap off to Pedey and his coaching staff. The HC or even DC do not get those CBs to perform at the level they've been playing at. There are position coaches who are doing a great job too.

There's nothing at all to suggest that Pedey isn't the main architect of the offense. I'm sure Reich contributes to it. Even Wentz has done if the stories are true. I'm sure most of the scheming around the NFL are calloborations.

Your persistence to minimize Pedey's coaching is odd. Is he atheist or something as equally terrible?

“There’s something significantly special about this team,” says Rev. Dr. Herb Lusk, who played running back for the Philadelphia Eagles for three seasons beginning in 1976. “I believe they have a divine connection- I really do.”

Once an Eagle always an Eagle, Rev. Lusk has served as team chaplain for the past 15 years, leading team pre-game prayers and Bible study.

Lusk says this team is lead by the faithful from Coach Doug Peterson, who he says “never misses Bible study,” to Quarterback Carson Wentz, who has been open about his Christian faith. B

But Lusk says this team is different, because the entire team seems driven by a higher purpose.

“You’ve got a guy like Chris Long who donated his salary to public education and who raised over a million dollars for water wells in Africa,” says Lusk, “and the offense coordinator- Frank Reich- he is a theologian with a Masters in Divinity.”

Ah, that explains Joe's propensity for crediting Reich over Pedey. Reich clearly being the super Christian! A Theologian!

What would be the problem if he was an atheist? It would just prove that he exercises the use of reason and intellectual honesty.

Anyway, Pedy is our HC and shwartz should be paid whatever it takes to keep him. We can't afford to patch holes anymore, If I was howie I'd take a paycut in order to keep the coaches together.

Pila, you are absolutely right. I don't know that Pedey is not the mastermind. I've mostly just assumed it since this offense has less of a West Coast feel to it than I expected. I've assumed that this was due to the influence of Reich.

Furthermore I just never was impressed by Pedey's coaching resume. The only thing I was confident about him was his ability to recreate much of Andy R's "culture," one that would be player-friendly and especially QB-friendly.

Maybe I'm wrong, but until I get more solid evidence to the contrary, I'm going to assume Pedey is more of a glue-guy HC working with quality coordinators and a quality set of position coaches.

Again I don't mean that as an insult to the young HC. I definitely admire him and what they have accomplished with him! It is actually a compliment regarding his "emotional intelligence." If you were the GM and your options for HC were limited to such an inexperienced guy, wouldn't you design it so that the young HC would be surrounded by veteran coordinators and position coaches? Wouldn't you want a young HC with the emotional intelligence to rely on those coaches appropriately?

I agree, I doubt that God cares about the final score. The chaplain is not there for the W-L record as much as it is for the individual players who want to participate in the chaplain's activities. I certainly believe God wants each player and coach to be the best athlete, best team mate and and best human being in the community that each of them can be.

Interesting, thanks. I did not know anything about the religious or philosophical views of Pedey or Reich.

Pila, Christianity encourages honesty and fairness. (That doesn't mean it will always happen since we are also all imperfect, and at times, sinners.) So I try to give you my honest opinion regardless of an individual's socio-political or religious views. If the Raiders' O Linemen play well, I'll give them props for that. If they act like Commie-inspired Left Coast idiots, I'll say that too.

The Christian view is that we are all beloved children of one Father-God, so must treat each other as beloved brothers and sisters. Maybe some of that Christian world-view has rubbed off on the team and so they have more of a caring, family environment. I don't know. I bet Pastor Lusk does.

I believe every professional sports franchise in the country has one, along with pretty much every institution you can think of - military units, law enforcement, colleges/universities, etc. But perhaps they're all wrong about the value and unity a chaplain can provide, and maybe they'd be better off listening to you and having a Team Atheist show up pre-game to give a motivational speech bitching about how the big nothing void awaits us all in this purposeless universe..... rolleyes.gif

Maybe people shouldn't be so gullible to think that they can cherry-pick a book to make things more convenient for themselves?

Maybe the truth would allow people to make the most of the one life they have and treat others with respect and love? I'm glad that you think that's what the bible taught you joe, but the fact is that you're reading between lines and skipping over the whole part where it's okay to own slaves, how much to pay for them and how to beat them within inches of their life. The book in its entirety is amoral and nobody should submit to the idea of sins and thought crimes.

It's 2017 and we still cling onto things from the bronze age because we can't deal with the idea that we might not be that special after all.

Look, I don't mind what you or anyone believes, but to say it's true is a lie because you have no demonstrative evidence to support such a claim. I don't expect football players, cops and military personnel to question because they haven't been given the tools to be critical at thinking.

If you'd like to participate in the debate, that's great, it's an awesome conversation to have with someone. But to act like atheist are evil or have no morals is completely false, we're all atheist after all.... that is unless you still believe in zeus?

How could you say that, no purpose? Your world is what you make of it and if believing in something you can't prove is what floats you then great, just don't brainwash someone else's child into thinking that crap.

If prayers work, then let the pilot land the plane via prayers, leave your child unstrapped into the baby seat and let god protect it. What happens after the prayer is gods will after all...

I bet you're real fun at parties.

Not too long ago on this board you quoted a Communist in supporting your political ideology (naturally, you didn't even know who the quote came from) - one that has people in Venezuela putting their family pets on the dinner menu, and rationing electricity. An ideology where atheists running countries have killed over 100 million people in the last century, and caused countless amounts of suffering. Maybe you should look in the mirror first, and practice some critical thinking yourself.

You're right, that author and I are the reason why those people are eating their family pets... nice of you to dodge any response to my thoughtful reply and go right onto the attack which is baseless in the first place.

John Ernst Steinbeck III (February 27, 1902 – December 20, 1968) was one of the most famous and most widely read American writers of the 20th century. A winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1962, his most acclaimed works include his novella Of Mice and Men (1937) and his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Grapes of Wrath (1939), both of which examine the lives of the working class and migrant workers during the Great Depression.

Your interpretation of a man who has contributed more to american culture then you could ever hope to holds no water. His accused political associations means nothing especially during that era. You have only proven that this conversation and/or debate is well over your head and out of your depth. I'll take the debate elsewhere if you're unwilling to civilize it.

Edit: I'm going to ignore any of franchises replies to keep things in the hemisphere of an intelligently civilized conversation. His responses are thoughtless and knee-jerked because of his apparent insecurity to opinions that differ from his own.

Glad to see you looked up the guy who you didn't know you quoted last time. Keep up the good work.

He has contributed more degeneracy to society than I could ever hope to do, and that makes me happy. He signed a letter supporting the Soviet invasion of Finland, and the puppet government they set up there, after the big purge was done of course. You admire him. That says a hell of a lot more about you than it does of me.

We aren't 'debating' anything. I'm pointing out your own words in support of evil. You're whining that I'm doing so. Take it wherever you like from here.

So evil! ohmy.gif

You going to reply to my actual post or keep up this diatribe?

I'm most interested to know if you're really as dumb as you sound or if you're actually going to make a case worth reading and responding to?

I know Joe will be looking me over and hopefully he will have something to add to what he believes and why.

Joe, the virtues of kindness and brotherhood are not unique to Christianity. In fact, it precedes all religion.

But I'm not interested in debating Christianity for the millionth time. I'll say this - inspiration is where one finds it. So, im not concerned with each's source. So long as they don't start proselytizing out of every pore like some insufferable door-knocking idiot, I say go at it some more.

And finally, I was just goofing on you a little. I didn't honestly think you were minimizing Pedey because he might have been atheist. Lol

Well said Pila, thank you.

FWIW- I still visit church to listen to my mother sing in her choir, there's something wonderful about the music and how it relaxes you. That's about as far as I'm willing to take it though even if i can recognize the positive's in having a community aspect to a delegation, I can do just as well with the volunteer work I do and the people I meet through it.

Hey man,

Just wanted to take this to private chat to understand your motives...

From what I can gather you're some kind of PC culture antifa fascist who thinks steinbeck is some kind of monster because he authored some of the most amazing speeches and writings of our time. You do understand that the entire world disagrees with your assessment of this man right? which leads me to believe you're into some alt-facts conspiracy crap.

Under the same logic, I'm guessing you think charles murry is a racist and he should have been shouted off the speakers podium at the liberal arts college? That safe spaces are needed?

I think you're incredibly mis informed and probably meagerly educated. Your attacks do on me do little to sway me, I've known for a while as a fact that the board merely tolerates you and your defensive attitude towards anything you disagree with. Learn to open yourself up to learning something new and defending your positions with tact instead of flailing like a child calling people names and trying to demonize someone who's greatness proceeds you.

Try to lighten up, everything is open for discussion as long as it's civil on the public forum, stop trying to ruin good conversation with your insistent bullshit. Reply to my response with some character and intelligence and you might be surprised what you get from it.

Just a suggestion, at the end of the day you've gotta live with yourself. I won't pity a martyr because I know that they like their job.

Messages like this are why you get nothing but trolling responses from me. This guy has a better command of the English language than you.

I made a comment about how I didn't know a chaplain was assigned to each locker room in the NFL.

I apologize for the conversation getting out of hand, I took an opening to reply to joe's comment about religion in good spirit, and as I stand it was hijacked by franchise's accusations of my part in 100 million lives being lost. They way he went on with false-equivalencies and past-tense accusations was not dissimilar to a whiny woman.

I took it to private chat to stoop to his level, he decided to share that publicly instead of growing a pair.

Not particularly proud but for the record, I stand behind everything I said to him regardless of the tone. The guy is an idiot.

You started off with condescending insults towards joe about religion and those who follow it, I pointed out how you should look in the mirror considering your ignorant beliefs that require an inability to think critically. You kept going, including sending me a private message full of more insults, and a 5-year old's command of your native language. For some reason you seemed to think you were owed a response from me in private, which is comical. In any case, if that's what you consider 'courage,' then your politics aren't surprising - nor is it surprising that you're tooting your own horn for acting tough on a website.

The irony is I'm not religious at all. But I've heard enough morons in my day mocking people for practices that better society, while doing nothing but offering degeneracy themselves. Militant atheists are worse than any evangelical.

I have come to the conclusion that you just type silly stuff just to get a reaction. What in the world would lead you to believe that Reich is the mastermind. You ignore the one issue so many people had with Pederson calling plays but you think that Reich draws them up? Wtf?

hHe didn't have a lot of experience as a coach but he played for some of the best coaches ever to walk the sidelines.

A good HC builds a good staff.

Well gee...thanks for not minding...very big of you. I also love the fact that you feel anyone who disagrees with you does so because they lack critical thinking. You pompous attribution that football players, cops and military personnel have not been given the "tools" to be critical thinkers is particularly telling of your intelligence. I always find it entertaining when those with one set of values chooses to insult the intelligence of others, others who may have less or substantially more intelligence than those who criticize.

No one should criticize those who believe in something or nothing and being an atheist does not make one evil (except Pila, he is one evil cat) just as being a person of faith does not make one stupid. Stupid is thinking you have all the answers either way.

I'm disappointed that I was the only person here that tried to correct someone who's promoting the burning of books. Surely one could take it up with the Noble prize and countless other acclamation's the man earned through his life before spewing that dog crap about the author here.

The topic of religion is a touchy one, because I agree that anyone who claims they know it all is stupid and that's kind of what religion does- it replaces the phrase "I don't know" with god. All I was trying to do was spur a healthy conversation that may have lead into religion & football and why both seem to come hand in hand.

Franchise has been a troll on this board from day 1, his primary goal is to trigger people online without any contribution to the conversation. His outrageous claims needed equal proof that he could not provide. My grandfathers both walked into WWII scared teenagers and came out of it battle hardened men with fascism behind them, I'm not one to let those same ideas take root or give them a pass by any means and I'm ashamed that no one else here thought to correct it either.

My comment about football players, police and military servicemembers is generalized based on the common knowledge that: The poor and uneducated are usually the people fighting our wars. They are trained to do their job and not question authority. Football players go through their entire schooling without even having to earn their academic merits as long as their College/NFL bound-they get a pass, the last people I would teach my son to look up to is football players.

Now the science- Societal science tells us that as religiosity declines, societal health increases. Less rape, less drug use, more income, better health, education, happiness ect... This is proven, demonstrable and repeatable.

The united states is near the bottom-middle of the pack when compared to the rest of the world in education. Even if you were a good student in school, rest easy knowing that you're still much dumber then the rest of the world. Of coarse Betsy Devoss will save our children and make our schools great again.

With this, I'm done and out. I hardly post on this forum anyway and I know that I can't coexist in the same space as Franchise. I've said what I feel strongly about and I don't apologize for any word of it. If you're offended by any of it- good!

I love guys like him who make ridiculous generalizations in an effort to make themselves feel good about their mindset/\. The typical "athletes are stupid" and "the military is made up of dumb poor people" silliness is so condescending but the funny part is he does not even realize how ridiculous he is as he states it. He thinks anyone who does not think like him is an idiot and that is a shame. Differing opinions do not mean that either side is wrong except for him. lol

There are times I despair of this board. How often do posters need to be reminded that they have no excuse for not being civil, even when disagreeing?
