After the loss of the great D Sproles and with all of the other injured or nicked up bodies I think high teens would be more realistic than some of the assessments in this list of sports writers.

A healthy Eagles team got a W on the road against an average Skins team, but certainly did not dominate.

They lost but were competitive on the road to one of the best teams in the NFL.

They were outperforming the Giants--a below average team-- before all of the injuries hit. Then the Giants easily outperformed the Eagles.

With all of the injuries, I don't think they could go into DC and beat the Skins again. The improvement in the running game is encouraging, especially since the depleted D will need help from the O in areas of time of possession and field position. I won't be surprised if they loose this week in CA, especially if Cox and Hicks can't play.

A team that won 11 games last year outperformed a team that beat them on a last second field goal. You must be an Eagles fan. laugh.gif

I don't see this team as a top 10 team. The Eagles are too high in the majority of those rankings.

12-13th sounds about right.

Remember we've also had two 4th quarter collapses in a row. Performing extremely well for 3 quarters doesn't mean much if you allow the opponent to put up a 20-spot in the 4th. Contenders close out games.

We won by kicking a FG in the dying seconds. Does that constitute closing out a game?

If you look just at the Eagles, then you can say they don't belong in a specific spot in the power rankings. However, look at the rest of the NFL, there really are no clear great teams at this point in the season (yet).

Personally, I think any power ranking is stupid anyway.

It's fun and entertainment, like almost all things sports related. Of course the Pats are still the best team in the league, and the Chiefs look to have another dominant year in the regular season, which doesn't matter because of Andy in January. The Falcons are the best team in the NFC, but past those teams it's wide open what the playoffs will look like.

NFL Power Rankings: Week 4
http://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/the7...te-after-week-4

NFL.com and CBS have the Eagles at #3. How do you do that when a team has beaten opponents with a total of 2 wins!?

NFL.com has the Skins at #9--seems a little high-- and the Boys at #19--seems low to me.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000085...-into-top-three

I think around #8#10 would be reasonable for the Eagles although I don't really think they are that good right now. If they are still healthy after Cox and Darby return, and their rookie kicker still has his head on straight, they might be a Top 10 team, especially if they win the next two home games--Cards and Skins.

This team is not the #3 team. I have no idea what they are basing that on. A case could be made for #10 but I am not sold yet.

I put the Skins at about the same level as the Eagles so far. Yes, the Eagles won in week 1 but I think the Skins have played closer to their talent level since then. I am really looking forward to round 2.

I assume they are basing it on our record in addition to the performance of the rest of the league (thus far). The normal standouts have performed underwhelmingly (ie NE) so there is room for teams that have performed. Based on performance #3,4,5 should be interchangeable.

This probably contributes to the ranking. It's a snapshot though, and as the season progresses the better teams will be more consistent and pull away from the pack. The question is if the Eagles are one of them.

Week 7: Many sports writers have the Eagles ranked #2. For example,

2. Eagles (5-1; No. 5): Carson Wentz needs to avoid contact, or the Eagles won’t be able to avoid having to play multiple games without him.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/...wer-rankings-7/

It is hard to imagine how many years ago it was since they were ranked that high.

I still think they could be beaten by half or more of the teams in the NFL, including a desperate Redskins team that is also ranked in the Top 10.

The teams we beat leading up to Carolina would've made me agree with you - however, we went into Carolina on short rest and convincingly beat them. We deserve right now to be thought of as one of the top teams in football. Things should be rocking Monday nifght.
