QUOTE Here's why: The Cardinals have offered to make Fitzgerald the highest-paid receiver in the league as well as the highest-paid player in team history. The deal they are offering, according to a team source, would make him the third highest-paid, non-quarterback in the league. So far, Fitzgerald and agent Eugene Parker have balked at the deal, which is leading to the showdown Friday. The Cardinals have offered Fitzgerald $25 million in guaranteed money, but he wants more than the $32.5 million in guarantees that Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson got last year. But that guaranteed money was paid on a six-year deal. Parker wants more on a four-year deal. Offering $25 million on four years is not being cheap. How about more like being unrealistic on the part of the player? Is Fitzgerald worth that money? Of course he isn't. But who is? In the current NFL climate, where journeymen free agents will get paid, Fitzgerald deserves a new deal -- just not the outrageous numbers he's seeking. If he won't play for that kind of cash, I doubt the Eagles are willing to offer more (in addition to whatever they had to trade to get him). This is supposed to be a WR heavy draft, plus there will be something like 30-40 UFA WRs on the market by Friday. The Eagles have plenty of other, more responsible options. Looks like the Fitz day dream is becoming a pipe dream. -------------------- Don't you realize the sky is falling? And, when it eventually does, I'll be here to say "I told you so!"

With all due respect, it was a pipe dream since day 1.

NOBODY on this board has tried to make the case that we would get him, so there is no need to ridicule anyone. Myself, Zero and some others have daydreamed about getting him, but that's it.... no different than we daydream about winning the Super Bowl...

I think if he wanted to stay with AZ he would take the deal. I think he wants out as Leinhart does not throw to him. He wants to force AZ's hand to move him (imo).

I expect he is open to where he is sent as long as they have a decent qb. It is just my opinion, but I think he sees his contract status as a real chance to get out of AZ who is heavily invested in Leinhart. I think Fitz does not want to play with him again. Once Warner came in Fitz went from an invisible wr to an all-pro level wr. His next contract will not be as good if he cannot get the ball. Now is an opportunity to get out with his big cap hit.
I have no info on any of this, just my read. -------------------- It's a complicated case, Maude. Lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what have yous. Fortunately I've been adhering to a pretty strict, uh, winghead regimen to keep my mind, you know, limber.

Good argument there, Rock.
I'm just trying to stir the mojo a bit with my campaign. I do think Rock makes some sense though. The kid is supposed to be high character but he's holding his team ransome. If he really wants to be on a winner, he wouldn't be pushing as hard as he is. I wouldn't be surprised if there's tampering going on and some team has been creative with a proposal... some team who is close to being among the elite. Some team who's offense will favor a young stud WR and put him in the HOF. Hooka, hooka. -------------------- Ya gotta believe!

It is not as much a pipe dream as you may think. The Eagles have had a lot of conversations w/ Az and it has not been about tea and crumpets. I am not saying it is a probability or even a good possibility but lets just say it would not be a shock to see Sheppard sent to Az in a package for Fitz. It is a long shot to be sure, but it would not be a shock.
There is a school of thought that Lito is good but fragile here. -------------------- The sooner you agree with me, the sooner you'll be right.

Got-a-link for a guy? Or a source on dat? What I am saying is that there are talks but a deal like this is touchy so it is more likely not to happen but there is something happening. And my source is not a blog or media outlet. It is usually a good source and has not been wrong so far. -------------------- The sooner you agree with me, the sooner you'll be right.

Ahhh. Some insider info. Thnx for sharing. The long shot just may be getting shorter. If they sign Samuel, that was to be the first move that could end in a possible trade. -------------------- The sooner you agree with me, the sooner you'll be right.

Wow! For the first time, I could actually see this happening. We get a more durable big-play CB and a top WR. If they pull this off, it will be a very successfull off-season for them.

Trade Lito for Fitz. Maybe that is why the tendered Hanson so high. They want to keep him as their 3rd CB, to go with Samuel and Brown and then they draft a CB on the second day? The Hanson tender would make more sense if that was the plan, sign Samuel and trade Lito. -------------------- Don't you realize the sky is falling? Ahhh. Some insider info. Thnx for sharing. As I told you last night, they toyed w/ offers to AZ for Fitz. AZ wants multiple 1st rounders and Sheppard. They want a crazy package but I am stunned with what the Eagles were ready to offer. They are apparently pretty serious on upgrading this outfit. -------------------- The sooner you agree with me, the sooner you'll be right.
