The players respond in an NYT oped

https://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2018/6/...ia-torrey-smith

“President Trump, please note: Our being professional athletes has nothing to do with our commitment to fighting injustice. We are citizens who embrace the values of empathy, integrity and justice, and we will fight for what we believe is right. We weren’t elected to do this. We do it because we love this country, our communities and the people in them. This is our America, our right.

We intend to continue to challenge and encourage all Americans to remember why we are here in this world. We are here to treat one another with the kindness and respect every human being deserves. And we hope our elected officials will use their power to do the same.”

It seems the president opened a door to dialog and the players are saying he's not listening. Is the injustice they speak of new or have others dropped the ball in their eyes as well? Is it possible that everyone should start listening to what the other side has to say or is it a given that one side is right and one side is wrong?

And maybe it's best to keep this stuff in Gods and Generals?

Maybe it's me, but I wish their response was more conciliatory and more inviting for dialogue.

I mean, you have a President who seems set in his ways, and he offers you the opportunity to give him names of people who were wronged and should be pardoned. This response doesn't fit The opportunity.

Maybe my expectations are off target, who knows.

I agree with you One. I'm glad that there is at least some progress but we have talked this thing to death!
