I think we're going to see the Garcia offense this year. More emphasis on the running game than we're used to seeing. Weaver says he's been practicing carrying the ball so defenders don't trip him up. Shady is in his second year and is more prepared for a 16 game grind. The Eagles sign a power back who's forte is NOT catching the ball and keep another power back who also doesn't catch the ball very well.

Now they've traded for a run-blocking RG to play in a line that features a run blocking LT and a very good run blocking LG. DJax is the only WR who shouldn't be able to offer nice down field blocking. There has been significant emphasis on the TEs blocking skills.

Andy isn't going to abandon his pass happy ways, but he also wants to keep his new franchise QB healthy. If I remember correctly, Green Bay has a very agressive defense that will give Kolb fits if he can't establish a ground attack. Whoever plays C will likely be more suited to going forward than dancing back in protection.

This team has some pretty impressive pieces, but I just don't see the offensive line coming together, and I don't think Kolb plays very well under pressure.

I also see major holes in the secondary. I don't think we've sufficiently addressed the corner situation. I think we're actually worse there than we were a year ago. And while Nate and Coleman look to have a decent future at safety for us, I can't see them having great years this year, and Mikell is a journeyman, below average starter at best.

OT: public financing of sports stadiums

Interesting article in the NYT on financing of sports stadiums:
As Stadiums Vanish, Their Debt Lives On
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/08/sports/0...amp;ref=general
with supporting graphic:

Of note:
* Philadelphia still owes a relatively small debtload on the Vet, which won't be paid off until 2020.
* The 35% public burden on the Linc construction is better than most recent stadium deals, but still looks bad compared to the Giants/Jets 2010 all-private-financing.

One more benifit of the 18 game season

One less week of hearing about baseball! Football, not baseball, is America's true past time. When football season starts even the douchebags at ESPN have a hard time pretending that they still care about baseball.

Also, with football season starting on labor day weekend it should help suck some energy out of the playoff race for baseball which may even lead to baseball becoming less popular and then maybe just dissolving completely, so we don't have to keep hearing about such a worthless sport.

Rodgers An Obvious Template For Kolb

Three years ago, the Brett Favre "will-he-won't-he" saga came to an end in Green Bay. Departing was a legendary figure at the quarterback position, and waiting patiently in the wings was the young heir apparent. This cool and steady first-year starter was no rookie, as he sat and watched one of the best at his position for three full seasons.

Sorry Guys I just can't see it

I know our offense last year scored the most points ever.

I know we were 11-5 lst year.

I know it is reasonable to expect Maclin and McCoy to improve.

I don't think it is the end of the world that we traded McNabb

I don't think Kolb is going to be a bad QB.

I think our LB's should be much better with Bradley and Sims.

I thought Brown was a solid not spectacular CB.

BUT

I think our secondary will be the worst we've seen. THE personnel mistake resonates with each ole and each care free slant pattern run by the opposition

We will get some injuries like we always do and our depth is shallower than normal years.

I'm not sold on McDermott.

Last year's record was misleading. We didn't beat a team above .500 and got crushed twice at the end of the year by our main rival, a team that was the 3rd or 4th best in the conference.

The OL looks horrendous and their best OL has feet problems and hardly played. Our personnel mistakes along this line are coming back to haunt us.

Fat Man's definition of balance is fries with a Big Mac. He won't learn and his chuck and duck ways will get the slighter Kolb killed. When that happens, Vick isn't capable.

When the times get tough, where is the veteran leadership?? We're severely lacking here IMO

I've been a fan for a long time. I'm never a SB every year type of prognosticator, but I think I had them missing the playoffs once since I've been on this board. This is the least expectations I've had. And I say that believing that Kolb will do a decent job while he is in there.

Here's the doom and gloom W-L prediction:

vs. GB - L
@ DET - W
@ Jax - W
vs. WAS - W
@ Sf - L
vs. ATL - W
@ TEN - L
BYE
vs. IND - L
@ WAS - L
vs. NYG - W
@ CHI - L
vs. HOU - W
@ DAL - L
@NYG - L
vs. MIN -L
vs. DAL - W

AND, there is no excuse for the step backwards.
