Eagles Forum _ Philadelphia Eagles or Football Related Discussion _ The #1 reason for New England's Sustained Success

Mrs. Tom Brady

It is because of her that Tom Brady can be the lowest paid QB in the NFL who is not on a rookie deal. He has been paid about 13-15M PER YEAR, less than his market value.

Give Howie 15M of extra cap space to use every year, and we could do very very well.

This is a huge reason for their success.

Could the league ever put a limit to such a bargain? They could if they want to.

I don't buy the argument that Mrs. Brady has much to do with it. But you make a great point about the effect for NE. His paltry salary is a factor in the Pat's success.

Tom deserves more recognition for this. Without his very modest salary the Pats would not have the $ for the FAs they sign every year to plug holes.

Tyrod Taylor makes more than Brady!

Brady vs Brees scroll down to the history.

https://overthecap.com/player/drew-brees/1492/ (look at the dead $ for an undersized 40 yr old QB! That's serious kicking the can down the road. )

Are you talking about Creepy Tom?

I'd agree with Joe that Brady deserves some credit.

Rather than maximising his personal income he's "settling" for "just" $15m a year which provides the Patriots with a lot of cap room to give him a good supporting cast.

I'm not expecting Wentz to do the same, but it would be beneficial all round if he "settled" for "just" $25m per annum rather than what looks to be $32m. That extra $7m could be used to give him better targets or better protection.

But that's the point. Because his wife has so much money, the Brady family doesn't need it. I doubt he would be taking that discount otherwise.

Posted by: Joegrane Mar 4 2018, 10:51 AM

Considering the length of big time celebrity marriages, her $ probably has little impact on his income aspirations.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3525902/It-s-seven-year-GLITCH-celebrity-marriages.html

If the couple has a world-view that values long-term marriage and discourages desire for max income, for example, conservative Christian, then I could believe that her $ is a significant factor.

The Brady family does not "need" the $15 mil he is currently getting.

The #1 reason would be because they are a great tandem. Once that was established it became easier for Brady to make decisions on his contract. He's not the first (or last) player to choose to restructure their contract to help the team. Unlike other franchises, NE hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. There's no evidence that the end is near.

Also, his endorsements provide another almost $10 million a year.

And of course, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if his 'discounted salary' on paper is made up on the side somehow.....

I don't know about you, but if I earned $15m per annum I'd be very relaxed about missing out on another $10m. Of course Id' have to make compromises to my lifestyle, such as having the butler wash the Ferrari as opposed to trading it in when it's dirty.

If Brady isn't getting money from Kraft on the side, or will after retirement, then I don't know anything about anything. Has anyone here ever seen or heard Brady do anything self-sacrificing? Ever? That man has more pride than the entirety of China.

After I posted this, I heard that apparently Brady is majority owner of the company that does the training for the Pats. The team pays for their services and as owner, Brady gets much of that.

I need to get verification as I think it was on WIP. But if true, it would appear to be a blatant violation and right with the Patriots MO.

Yeah - in other words, as I said, nobody could possibly believe Brady is simply cutting his pay for the greater good.

It's all relative.

Right now there's a dude in Bangladesh saying, "Don't know about you, but if I earned $45K per annum I'd be very relaxed about missing out on another $30K." (Check my math, but I think the ratios are equivalent.)

Please don't misinterpret this as a defense of Tom Brady or the Cheatriots. Just sayin'.

This whole place has been singing Kumbaya for over a month. If I cared enough I would search past threads and see if anyone ever predicted all would be healed by a ring. There's no reason to really argue about usual topics anymore.

Exactly. No matter what the argument is, all you have to do is say, "The Eagles are SB Champions..." Drop the mic and walk off. Argument over. Who cares who won and who lost. The Eagles are the fucking SB champs...

It's a fair point.

Let's hope our Bangladeshi friend is an Eagles fan, or at least as happy as we are despite his relative financial situation because there are a lot of things more valuable than money.

To tell you the truth he's been like that ever since his 1st contract. I live in Massachusetts and he's always signed for less to help the team. He's so competitive that he knows if he takes more that leaves less for the team. I've got the feeling Carson will be like that too when it comes his time.

I reckon you will be proven right & it's an attitude that has reaped rewards in my local sport, AFL. Although the salaries are a fraction of those NFL players earn, you often see the best AFL players earn much less than they otherwise could to help enable team success. Let's hope that mindset keeps much of this team together in coming years.

Superbowl Champs eh? still pinching myself biggrin.gif

NFL players are not nearly so noble over here rump, but Carson is a rare guy. I'm hoping.
