Eagles Forum _ Philadelphia Eagles or Football Related Discussion _ Upon further review, my draft strategy is to stand pat

Reason #1

We are very talented and frankly, don't have much roster space for the six picks we have this year.

Reason #2

We have all of our picks in 2019 plus one 7th for Barbre from DEN.

Reason #3

I'd rather keep the 32nd pick and keep the ability for a 5th Year option if the guy is good.

Reason #4

I want them to announce "with the 32nd pick of the draft, the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles select ... in front of Drew Pearson and the Cowboy fans!

It basically comes down to stay at 32,

OR

Drop down to 40ish and pick up a high 4th round pick. Maybe you can get a low 5th as a premium if someone is desperate.

Anyone? With a 5th round sweetener or without it and the 4th only.

You only sacrifice a first for a high second plus a later pick or something like a third next year. But I really want the Dallas fans to hear us announced as Champions.

You don't think they'll announce the Eagles as SB champs upon their first pick regardless of the position?

The Eagles will have more than their current 6 picks after they get comp picks for T Burton., P Robinson , maybe B Allen or others. Unfortunately I don't expect anything higher than a pick in the bottom of the 5th round.

The chart at this page will give you a good feel for the value of our projected lost FAs in compensatory picks.
https://overthecap.com/compensatory-draft-picks-cancellation-chart/

Even if they trade down and pick up a mid 2nd and a mid 3rd or an upper mid 2nd and 4th, they may package two picks to move up in a later round.

Trading down in the first round might give them an opportunity to package one of their 4ths so they can get a better combo of a 2nd and 3rd.

They could trade a pick for a higher 2019 pick.

You can bet Howie will be creative.

Those guys are still Eagles. The comp picks this year are for FA lost last year. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-hands-out-compensatory-picks-for-2018-nfl-draft-cowboys-packers-big-winners/ ...

Yep, this years comp picks already decided.

None for the Iggs. Any net losses in this offseason are awarded next year. Difference is, they can now be traded.

Interesting to see that Blount didn't even get NE a 7th as he was one of the lowest APY that got eliminated in this year's calculation.

I agree on all counts but it has zero chance of happening. There is no way in hell that Howie can sit still during a draft. He's addicted to wheeling and dealing. He just can't help himself. We will also most likely have a couple of comp picks in '19 because we'll lose a couple of people in free agency.

I’m mostly kidding. Mostly.

But I actually do believe Saquon is a transformational RB and doesn’t carry the same type of value as other RBs.

His threat in the passing game makes him very unique.

I can’t wait to watch his career. I just hope it isn’t in NY.

Mostly, but it was an amusing way to make your point.

I'd be open to the idea of taking him if we had all our picks and were drafting early enough in round one that he'd still be on the board.

Let's hope the NJ VaGiants focus on a replacement for Manning, and then that the kid QB turns out to be Ryan Leaf or Tim Couch.
