So basically, McAdoo has just fired himself.

Maybe he was trying to gain favor with a certain member of Wingheads. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Do you really think a rookie coach has the authority to bench a veteran QB without talking to the GM, probably even the owner?

Could it be that they are thinking about going into rebuild mode by trading Manning in the off-season to a contender but need to know more about the other QBs they have?

Yes, of course. And he isn't a rookie coach.

All I know is this was done in an almost comically bad manner. I hate Eli as much as anyone else here, but he's doing pretty damn good this year considering the crap he has to take the field with every week. He also has the longest QB starting streak in NFL history behind Brett Favre - he was offered to start games to keep the streak alive, then get pulled in the 2nd half. He told them to fuck off.

I'd be shocked if McAdoo isn't fired soon, and maybe the GM with him. What a PR nightmare for a guy that brought them 2 Super Bowls and has started every game for 13 years.

So THIS is where Nabby has been!

He's running the NYG.

Geno fucking Smith!

Bwah.

Sheli never ever scared me.

Geno will make Tribisky look legit.

No idea what they're doing but I like it.

It's frightening to think that MacAdoodoo could have been coach of the Eagles.

Posted by: Dreagon Nov 29 2017, 06:26 AM

The dumpster fire has been lit.

Posted by: Joegrane Nov 29 2017, 11:32 AM

Okay, you've had your fun with this, now be serious for a moment. Why do THEY think this is a good idea?

Do they think someone will give them a 2nd round pick for Eli? It would have to be a team that is playoff-caliber except at QB. That used to be Denver, but they've been exposed. Jacksonville?
http://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/21606935

The only other reason to bench Eli is to get the team to think along these lines--that management is thinking about blowing up the team and rebuilding. Could it be a way to motivate them to play harder and give their fans something to hope for next year?

Well, to be honest, I think this move was made at the ownership level. It might have been suggested by Reese or Macadoo (or not) but Mara would have been the one to sign off on it. That probably means several things. First, Macadoo is probably toast, and Reese may be as well. (unless it was Reese's idea and he suggested it to Mara in a bid to save his own skin). They are in official tanking mode now, and have likely already asked Eli for a list of teams he would be willing to be traded to. They are starting Geno for appearance's sake since he is their #2, but they know he isn't their future and I predict they will swiftly switch to Webb to see if they have anything there or not.

As has been pointed out by many people, the idea that Manning is a class act who has been badly treated by the NJ VaGiants will be a surprise to fans of the Chargers.

That one single moment is the only one I know of. Over the last 14 years, he's shown to be more than that. I think a class act isn't all that inaccurate.
My hate for the Ginas is great, but now seeing Sheli in this state is surprisingly making me feel for him. We had his number, even when we stunk. He did seem incredibly lucky at times, and I always hated the fact that the guy was indestructible. I've always admired that about him.

I agree - these are orders from the top. Which should outrage the fan base even more.

I saw a video clip on espn of Macadoo suggesting that Webb will also get an opportunity this season.

Remember Tom Coughlin is in Jacksonville. Eli has done well in the past with a good D and running game. Maybe Tom made a friendly phone call to his old buddies in NY. The offer must be substantial enough that they'd bench Eli to evaluate their other QBs. They probably trust Tom that he is being straight with them about the seriousness of their offer.

At age 36 and with an extraordinary health history he could have a few more solid years in him behind a decent O Line. That would probably be perfect for Jax.

I bet Eli would jump at the opportunity.

It is a big decision for NY. They probably could patch up the O Line and be competitive next year. However with three above average teams in the NFC East, maybe this would be the time to accept a pick for Eli and rebuild.

Here you go again...

What THREE teams are above average in the NFC East? Right now, the only team above average is the Eagles. The NFC is in the shitter right now. It can change quickly for sure but, history tells us the Redskins will continue to look good on paper but not on the field. It looks like Dallas has quite a few problems, which may (or may not) get worked out.

You claim the Eagles aren't as good as their record indicates but you then post here indicating Dallas and the Redskins are above average.

SMH...

He's a legit top 16 QB.

He would be an upgrade in DEN, JAC and BUF.

I'd hate to see him leave the East as I was always comfortable when he was the opposing QB.

it's kind of ironic that we had his number. I think he's made minced meat of the Skins and Pukes though.

That would make sense. Geno Smith was simply brought in for veteran backup. Now that their season is way past over, playing him doesn't do them a whole lot of good. They already know what they've got there. But since at least some semblence of appearances must be kept, and going straight to Webb would be a tacit admission they aren't even trying anymore, they have to give Smith some time first.

It's hard to believe it's his 5th year in the league, even though he hasn't been a starter for 3 of them.

In all fairness, Geno Smith played QB for the Jets. It's a burial ground for QB's, certainly not a franchise were young QB's are groomed for a long career. While he hasn't been stellar, he's not been as bad as some make him out to be. With that said, I hardly expect his NYG tenure to be any different. That's a shit storm of a different kind over there.

True, but remember the only reason anybody here ever talks about Smith is because a certain member refuses to admit that perhaps we shouldn't have mortgaged the franchise to get him. laugh.gif

There's bold predictions, and then there's trolling. You can't be serious.

I'm not sure we can even grasp how this might be affecting the locker room. IMO this is one of the worst personnel decisions I've ever seen. It would be one thing if Eli was completely stinking up the joint and McAdoo wanted to plug in Webb to see what he can do. But Eli is having a pretty decent year stat wise, considering the shit sandwich he was dealt - and they're ending his streak to put in Geno fucking Smith?!?!?

I expect nothing less than a complete and utter collapse through the end of the year, and I'd be shocked if McAdoo even made it that far. And we'll all have fun watching it.

Believe me, I take it seriously. It's a division game, and we're not playing good football right now. We improved a little last night, but we mainly beat a team who was playing even worse. There's something awful shaky about our performances at the moment, even when we are winning. And it being a must win game doesn't mean so much when they're all must win games from this point on.

Well I guess the numbers and whatever other metric you want to use showed him to be a long shot with any team looking for a QB because he could only get work as a backup. You can argue that he was good enough for that. He has shown some flashes of quality play but he has a longer list of mediocrity or poor play.

Who knows, maybe the light goes on at some point.
