Eagles Forum _ Technical Help and Forum Suggestions _ House Rules

Why we're here

First and foremost this is a message board for Eagles fans to talk about the Eagles. Anything else that crosses your mind is fine too, with the obvious exception of hard core pornography (forget it). Softer stuff must be in a seperate post and carry a Pila Warning in the title to protect members at work. We've a specific board for discussing non-football matters including news, politics and religion if you can remain polite. So feel free to be creative if it's a slow day.

Anyone interested in our origin will find more http://wingheads.com/index.php?act=Help&CODE=01&HID=18.

What to do

Have fun. This is a place to enjoy ourselves as much as anything. We have no party line so any and all views on the Eagles are welcome whether you love, loath or can't decide on what the only team in the NFL worth a damn is up to. Profanity is fine if not over-used.

How to do it

However you want as long as you're civil to other posters - you'd be surprised at how worked up some people can get over a message board. There's a dividing line between telling someone they're full of shit (OK) and calling them a piece of shit (not OK). If you make an insult in jest, better to use a smiley to make it clear you're not being serious. And if you are being serious, don't post it. There's a reason for the edit button on each message.

If someone's pissing you off, ignore them and their posts. There's plenty of other people here to talk with. Never call for them to be banned - that decision rests with the admins and moderators alone. They will put it to a vote if someone is that annoying to enough people.

If you can't get your point through to someone the first three times, repeating it again and again won't work. If you've had to make a point that often in the one thread, they're too dumb to get it.

Quoting online articles is fine - just remember that a quote is all that's needed, not copying the whole article. Better to provide a link to it with a quick couple of lines telling everyone what the article is about. Please respect the copyright of the author.

Bear in mind you're accountable for what you post, not the board owners, so nothing libellous please.

Who's in charge

We try to be as democratic as possible when making decisions about the board. The admins and moderators are here to talk Eagles, not monitor everything. Also, they can't be here 24/7 so if you spot an offensive post use the Report button to let them know and they'll deal with it when they get the chance. You can also pm (not email) them with any concerns. Admins and moderators will always explain an action if asked politely. And they always seek to act in an even-handed way regardless of personal feelings and without favourites.

The admins are Aquila, Big Brother, Billy Penn, Facemask. Osceola, Talos and Watchdog. These are seperate handles for performing their duties and so anything posted under their normal handles should be treated as a personal view and not an expression of board policy.

Thanks in advance

This isn't a final version, but I've tried to bring in as much as possible from the Principles topic below.

Feel free to suggest additions and amendments, better ways to word something or any typing mistakes you spot.

Any reason why we shouldn't/can't ask any poster from the mother ship to come over and visit?

Posted by: wizardsandwars Apr 29 2004, 07:33 AM

Not sure what you mean, Zero. You can ask anyone you want ot come visit.

I'd prefer not to open the floodgates, though, until the new design is in place, and the new domain has been propogated.

Nothing ominous or disrespectful, I assure you. Just curious if anyone wasn't welcome. Just getting the lay of the land is all.

Posted by: wizardsandwars Apr 29 2004, 09:01 AM

No problems at all.

No, anyone and everyone is welcome here, and in fact, we're going to encourage alot of new membership, and we're going to be listed very high in the search engine rankings, so we'll get lots of newcomers.

Speaking only for myself, there is no one that I would discourage from visiting as long as they leave certain behaviors and attitudes home. But I think our admins can be counted on to preserve the civil order. And if not:

"Lynch 'em - but we ain't got no Lynch!"

huh?

I think this says the admins/moderators have separate handles to distniguish them from the two hats (poster, v. admin/moderator). How does somebody like me know who these dual personalities are?

thanks in advance for answering.

btw.... appreciate very much the house rules. Perfectly reasonable and very easy to understand.

A comment about the history. I read it today for the first time. I think the closing sentence though, should end with the words "and the individuals who frequent the site". After almost 18 months the freeding frenzy of anger and holding a grudge exists almost on a daily basis over there, and it is clear that anger is not directed at the site ... it is directed at ALL of us who frequent it. There's a difference, and I suspect there is no need to duck the issue. Spell it out like it is. At least it's honest then. And by being honest it helps to turn that misdirected anger and grudge into something ignored much easier.

You guys are doing a terrific job here .. now if only the Eagles would do THEIR part, life would be much better for everybody ...

go eagles. please.

That is correct. For example I'm Eyrie, but can dive into the nearest telephone booth and emerge as Aquila.

Most of my colleagues prefer to remain anonymous however.

As an addendum on the beginnings of the board:

Around 1998-1999 the group that eventually migrated to Rivals.com were meeting at the Eagles' board at phillynews.com, the first website for the Inquirer and Daily News. Near the end of 1999, the webmasters in charge of the phillynews board began making a number of changes in formatting which made reading and posting more and more of a hassle. Seeking a bulletin board format which was easier to use, in early 2000 a large group of regular phillynews.com posters migrated to the rivals.com Eagles board.

I checked this with my bookmarks from the time, and the chronology seems right. I was one of the ones who migrated once phillynews started becoming unusable because of their "improvements," and the Rivals board doesn't start showing up in my 'marks until early in 2000. ac6.gif

That might have been because 'Rivals' bought out a set of forums called 'NFLFans' around 2000.
